Captain Michael Ornauer died of 9/11 related cancer resulting from the mutual aid response to the WTC attack on September 11, 2001.

Joined the LBFD as a volunteer firefighter on November 14, 1990 and in 1995 became the Company Captain. Captain Ornauer was posthumously promoted to Honorary Chief.
