Captain Philip Cohen suffered major injuries during a collapse at a fire scene and was paralyzed in March 1970. He died from his injuries in August 1975.

Joined the LBFD as a volunteer firefighter on May 13, 1958 and was assigned to the Rescue Company. He transferred to Hook and Ladder company 2 in 1962 and in 1966 transferred to Hook and Ladder company 1. His final assignment was in Engine Company 1 and served there until his death in 1975.

He was a volunteer Captain and had been elected to Assistant Chief with the Long Beach FD.
