FF Caracciolo was killed near 225 West Park Ave, where Long Beach Firefighters had responded for a gas leak which filled the building with fumes. Sixty residents were evacuated during the gas leak. The 38 year old Firefighter had just led twenty tenants to safety when he was struck by a vehicle and killed. The driver was charged with DWI and failing to obey police on the scene.
Joined the LBFD as a volunteer firefighter on April 12, 1939 and was assigned to Hook and Ladder Company 1. He was appointed a career firefighter on May 25, 1952 and served until his death in 1956.
